Getting There

  • Car

    From the center of Red River Gorge Geological Area, head southeast on KY-15 S. Continue for about 4.5 miles until you reach the intersection with KY-77. Turn left onto KY-77 S and drive for approximately 3 miles. Look for the signs directing you to the Red River Gorge Scenic Byway. Follow the byway for about 2 miles until you reach the parking area for the Red-Byrd Arch trailhead, which is located on the left. There is no fee for parking at this location.

    Once you have parked your car at the Red-Byrd Arch trailhead, begin your hike on the marked trail that leads to Red-Byrd Arch. The hike is approximately 1.5 miles round trip and will take about 30-45 minutes each way. The trail is moderately challenging, so be sure to wear appropriate hiking shoes and bring water.
