Car

If you are driving, start from the nearest town in Aberdare Range, such as Ndaragwa. Head northwest on the Ndaragwa-Kiriani Road, which will transition into the Kiriaini-Rware Road. Follow the signs toward Aberdare National Park. The entrance to the park is located at Rware, Ndaragwa. Drive carefully as the roads can be winding and narrow. Ensure you have a 4WD vehicle if you plan on venturing into the park deeper.

Public Transport

If you are using public transportation, take a matatu (shared taxi) from Ndaragwa to Nyeri town. Once in Nyeri, look for another matatu heading to Rware. Inform the driver that you want to get off at the Aberdare National Park entrance. The fare for the matatu from Ndaragwa to Nyeri is approximately 150 KES, and from Nyeri to Rware, it should be around 100 KES. Be aware that matatus can be crowded, and it’s advisable to travel during the day for safety.

Taxi/Ride-sharing

For a more direct route, consider hiring a taxi or using a ride-sharing service from Ndaragwa or Nyeri. This is more expensive but provides a convenient door-to-door service. The cost for a taxi from Ndaragwa to Aberdare National Park can range from 2000 to 3000 KES, depending on negotiation and time of day.

Park Entrance Fee

Once you arrive at the park, remember to pay the entrance fee to access the park. The current fees are approximately 1,000 KES for Kenyan residents and 3,000 KES for non-residents. Ensure you keep your entrance ticket as it may be checked at various points within the park.
