Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the main entrance of Chyulu Hills National Park, which is located on the A104 road. Drive towards the Ol Tukai area. Continue on the main road for approximately 20 kilometers until you reach a fork in the road. Take the left fork, which leads to the Noomotio Observation Point. Keep an eye out for signs directing you to the observation point. The last few kilometers are on a dirt road, so a 4x4 vehicle is recommended for this section. The coordinates for Noomotio Observation Point are approximately -2.6721361 latitude and 37.2382583 longitude.
Public Transport
If you are using public transportation, take a matatu (shared taxi) from the nearest town, which is likely to be Mtito Andei, to Chyulu Hills National Park. From there, you may need to hire a local taxi or arrange a private driver to take you to Noomotio Observation Point, as public transport does not reach the observation point directly. Be prepared for a cost, which can range from KES 2000 to KES 4000 depending on the negotiation with the driver. Confirm the return trip to ensure you have a ride back.
Walking
For the adventurous, if you are within walking distance from Ol Tukai, you can hike to Noomotio Observation Point. It is about a 5-kilometer hike from the nearest lodge or campsite. Follow the main trails leading towards the observation point, and look for signs along the way. Make sure to carry enough water and snacks for the hike, as it can take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours to reach the observation point on foot. Always inform someone about your hiking plans for safety.
