Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the nearest town in the Great Rift Valley. Use Google Maps or a GPS device to navigate to the coordinates -0.7790135 latitude, 36.5095126 longitude. From towns like Nakuru or Naivasha, take the A104 highway heading towards Narok. The journey will take approximately 1 to 2 hours depending on traffic. Upon approaching Mirera, look for signs indicating the direction to Rift Valley. Ensure to check road conditions, especially during the rainy season.
Public Transportation
To reach Rift Valley via public transportation, start by taking a matatu (shared taxi) from Nakuru or Naivasha. These matatus frequently depart from designated bus stations and will take you towards Narok. Inform the driver that you are heading to Mirera; the fare is typically around 200-300 KES. Once you arrive in Mirera, you may need to hire a boda boda (motorcycle taxi) to take you directly to the Rift Valley viewpoint, which should cost around 100-200 KES. Make sure to negotiate the fare before starting your ride.
Taxi
If you prefer a more direct route, you can hire a taxi from either Nakuru or Naivasha. This is the most convenient option, especially if you are traveling with luggage or in a group. The taxi fare will vary but expect to pay between 2,500 to 4,000 KES for a one-way trip. The driver will be familiar with the location and can take you directly to Rift Valley.
Walking
If you are already in close proximity to the Rift Valley and prefer to walk, make sure to have a good map or GPS device. The area can be hilly, so wear comfortable shoes and stay hydrated. Walking routes can vary, but generally, you would follow local paths or roads leading towards the viewpoint. This option is more suitable for those looking for an adventurous experience.
