Public Transportation
From the Lamu Airport (LAU), take a taxi to Lamu Town, which is approximately a 20-minute drive. The taxi fare is around KES 1,500 ($13). Once you reach Lamu Town, head to the Lamu Jetty and take a boat to Mtamwini. The boat ride takes about 15-20 minutes and typically costs around KES 300-500 ($3-$4.50). Upon arrival at Mtamwini, you can walk to Amu House Lamu, which is located nearby.
Private Car
If you have access to a private car or are renting one in Lamu, drive towards Lamu Town. Park your car at a designated parking area in Lamu Town, as cars are not allowed in the town itself. From the parking area, walk to the Lamu Jetty and take a boat to Mtamwini, where Amu House Lamu is situated. The boat ride costs approximately KES 300-500 ($3-$4.50) and takes about 15-20 minutes.
Bicycle Rental
For the more adventurous traveler, rent a bicycle in Lamu Town and ride to the Mtamwini area. The ride takes around 30-45 minutes. Once you arrive in Mtamwini, you can park your bicycle and walk to Amu House Lamu. Note that the bicycle rental costs approximately KES 500-1,000 ($4.50-$9) per day.
