Car
If you are traveling by car within Lamu, head towards the main town of Lamu. Once you reach the Lamu Old Town area, you will need to find parking, as vehicles are not allowed in most parts of the old town. Park your car at a designated parking area, and from there, walk towards the waterfront. You can take a boat from the Lamu mainland to Mandarina Beach Cottage, which is accessible only by water. The boat ride typically takes about 15-20 minutes and costs around 500 KES per person.
Public Transportation (Matatu)
From any point in Lamu, you can catch a matatu (shared taxi) that goes to the Lamu Old Town. Once you arrive at the town, follow the same steps as with the car. Walk to the waterfront, where you can hire a boat to Mandarina Beach Cottage. The matatu fare to Lamu Old Town is approximately 100 KES per person. The boat ride will also cost around 500 KES per person.
Private Boat Hire
If you prefer a more direct route, you can hire a private boat from any point in Lamu or the nearby islands. Negotiate the fare with the boat operator beforehand; it may range from 2000 to 4000 KES depending on your starting point and the number of passengers. The journey will take around 20 minutes directly to Mandarina Beach Cottage.
