If you are traveling by car within Mount Elgon National Park, start at the park headquarters located at the Cheptais area. From there, take the main road leading south towards the Suam River entrance. Continue on the road for approximately 25 kilometers until you reach the junction leading to the Pyrax Den hiking area. Follow the signs pointing towards Pyrax Den, which is located approximately 5 kilometers off the main road. Ensure your vehicle is suitable for rough terrain, as the roads can be unpaved and challenging.

Public Transportation
To reach Pyrax Den via public transportation, first take a matatu (shared taxi) from Kitale to Cheptais. The fare is typically around 100-200 KES. Once you arrive at Cheptais, hire a local taxi or arrange for a boda boda (motorcycle taxi) to take you to Pyrax Den. The distance from Cheptais to Pyrax Den is about 30 kilometers, and the taxi fare can range from 1,000 to 1,500 KES. Make sure to negotiate the fare before starting your journey.

If you are already within the hiking trails of Mount Elgon National Park, you can hike to Pyrax Den. Start from the nearest trailhead, which is located near the Suam River campsite. Follow the marked hiking trail that leads towards Pyrax Den, which is approximately 6 kilometers away. The hike may take about 2-3 hours depending on your pace.
