Car
If you are traveling by car, start your journey in Meru Town. Head southeast on the Meru-Nanyuki Road (A2) and continue for approximately 22 kilometers until you reach the junction for the Ngonyi area. Turn left onto a dirt road marked for Ngonyi. Drive about 5 kilometers on this road, which may be rough in places, so proceed with caution. You can park your car at a designated parking area before the last stretch to Irine Falls. From the parking lot, it's a short 10-minute walk to reach the falls. Keep an eye out for local signage that will guide you.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a matatu (shared taxi) from Meru Town to Ngonyi. This service is frequent and typically departs from the main matatu stage in Meru. The journey takes about 30-40 minutes, costing approximately 100 KES. Once you arrive at Ngonyi, you may need to hire a local boda-boda (motorcycle taxi) or walk to the trailhead leading to Irine Falls, which is about 4 kilometers away. It's advisable to negotiate the fare with the boda-boda driver before your journey.
Walking
If you are already in the vicinity of Ngonyi, you can walk to Irine Falls. From Ngonyi village, follow the main path leading towards the hills. The trail is well-marked, and you will be surrounded by beautiful scenery. The walk takes about 1 hour, so wear comfortable shoes and carry water for the journey. Keep your eyes open for wildlife and local flora along the way.
