Car
If you are driving from Nanyuki, head towards the Mount Kenya National Park entrance. Follow the signs to the park and proceed to the main gate. Once you have entered the park, continue along the main road until you reach the junction for the Sirimon Route. Take this road and drive until you reach the designated parking area. From there, you will need to hike approximately 5 kilometers to reach Point Thompson. Make sure you have proper hiking gear and sufficient water for the trek.
Public Transportation
Start your journey in Nanyuki town by taking a matatu (shared taxi) towards the Mount Kenya National Park entrance. Inform the driver that you are going to the park and they will drop you off at the main gate. From the gate, you will need to hire a guide or arrange for a taxi to take you to the Sirimon Route parking area. Once at the parking area, you will need to hike approximately 5 kilometers to reach Point Thompson. Ensure you have enough water and snacks for the hike.
Hiking
After arriving at the Sirimon Route parking area, begin your hike towards Point Thompson. The trail is well-marked but can be steep in certain sections. The distance is about 5 kilometers, and it may take approximately 2-3 hours to reach the viewpoint depending on your pace. Make sure to carry sufficient water and snacks. It's advisable to start early in the morning to enjoy the best views and to avoid hiking in the dark.
