To get to Lake Elementaita from Nakuru Town, head to the main matatu stage located near Kenyatta Avenue. Look for a matatu going to Naivasha or Elementaita. Once you find one, hop on, and the fare is usually around 100-150 KES. The journey takes about 30-40 minutes. Inform the conductor that you want to get off at Lake Elementaita, and they will stop for you at the entrance.
Bicycle
If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bicycle from one of the shops in Nakuru Town. Head out of town towards the Nakuru-Naivasha Road. Cycle along the road, keeping to the left side for safety. Follow signs for Lake Elementaita, which is about 25 km away. It should take you around 1.5 to 2 hours depending on your pace. Be cautious of traffic and try to start early in the day.
Walking
Walking to Lake Elementaita from Nakuru is quite a trek, as it is approximately 25 km away. If you are up for the challenge, start from the Central Business District and head towards the Nakuru-Naivasha Road. Follow the road, and it will lead you directly to the lake. Be prepared for a long walk, and consider starting early in the morning. Ensure you stay hydrated and wear comfortable shoes.
Taxi
For a more comfortable journey, you can hire a taxi from Nakuru Town. You can find taxis near the main square or use ride-hailing apps if available. Negotiate the fare beforehand, which should be around 1,500-2,000 KES. The ride will take about 30 minutes, and the driver will drop you off at the entrance of Lake Elementaita.
