Private Car
If you are traveling by private car, start your journey from the town of Voi, which is a central hub in the Tsavo Region. From Voi, head east on the A109 road for approximately 32 kilometers until you reach the junction at Mombasa Road. Turn left onto the B7 road towards Machakos. Continue on the B7 for about 70 kilometers, passing through the towns of Mtito Andei and Kibwezi. After Kibwezi, keep following the B7 until you see signs for Yatta Plateau. The plateau is located just off the main road, and you may need to drive a short distance on a dirt road to reach the viewpoint. Parking is available near the plateau.
Public Transportation
To reach Yatta Plateau using public transportation, start by taking a matatu (shared taxi) from Voi to Mtito Andei. This journey will take about 1-1.5 hours. Upon arrival at Mtito Andei, switch to another matatu heading towards Kibwezi. Once in Kibwezi, you can catch a matatu that goes towards Machakos. Ask the driver to drop you off at the junction for Yatta Plateau. From there, you may need to walk approximately 2 kilometers on a dirt road to reach the plateau. Be prepared for some uneven terrain.
Taxi
If you prefer a more direct method, you can hire a taxi from Voi to take you to Yatta Plateau. This is a more expensive option, typically ranging from 4000 to 6000 Kenyan Shillings, depending on negotiation and the time of day. The taxi will take the same route as a private car, and you can ask the driver to wait for you at the plateau while you enjoy the views.
Use Yatta Plateau as your starting point for nearby food, family ideas, nightlife, and more local discoveries.
