Discover more about Wat Chomphet

Wat Chomphet, also known as Wat Chom Phet Satni Silimoungknoun Vaxi Alram, is located on a hilltop in the Chomphet District, across the Mekong River from Luang Prabang. Constructed in 1888 by one of the Thai kingdoms, the temple provides visitors with breathtaking views of Luang Prabang and the Mekong River. While the temple structure has suffered from neglect over the years, its weathered facade adds to its sense of authenticity. The temple grounds feature two greying pagodas and a stupa made of bricks. It is believed that the stupa contains the bones of one of the wives of a King of Laos. Restoration projects have been undertaken to conserve this historical site. To reach the temple, visitors must ascend 123 steps. Despite the climb, the reward is a serene and undisturbed vista, especially beautiful during sunset. Wat Chomphet offers a peaceful escape from the bustling city and a unique perspective on the region's natural beauty.
