From the center of Champasak, head east towards the Mekong River. You can start at the Champasak Historical Heritage Museum. Walk along the riverbank until you reach the main road (Route 13). Continue walking north along Route 13 until you see signs for Pakse. Follow these signs for approximately 1.5 kilometers until you reach a fork in the road. At the fork, take the left path which leads towards Wat Phousalao. You will see a small hill ahead with steps leading up to the temple.

If you prefer cycling, rent a bicycle from one of the local shops in Champasak. Head towards the Mekong River, following the same route as if you were walking. Once you reach Route 13, turn north and cycle for about 1.5 kilometers until you arrive at the fork. Take the left path towards Wat Phousalao, where you can park your bike at the base of the hill before ascending the steps to the temple.
