Motorbike/Car

The easiest way to reach The Rock Viewpoint is by renting a motorbike or car. From Vientiane, the drive is approximately 3-4 hours along Highway 8. Ensure you have a valid license and are comfortable driving on potentially winding roads. Parking is available at the visitor center.

Public Transport

Local buses from Vientiane's Southern Bus Terminal to Kong Lor or Lak Xao can drop you off at The Rock Viewpoint. Be prepared for a potentially long and crowded ride with multiple stops. From there, it's a short walk to the viewpoint entrance. Bus tickets from Vientiane to Kong Lor cost around 160,000 LAK. Negotiate a price with the driver beforehand.

Tuk-Tuk

Overview

The Rock Viewpoint, also known as “The Peak of the loop”, is a must-stop destination on the Thakhek Loop, opening the doors to the Phou Hin Boun National Protected Area. This area is an uncharted world of ancient karstic forests, breath-taking views, and endemic wildlife in Central Laos. Visitors can immerse themselves in one of the largest limestone forests in Asia, with a fascinating itinerary of zip lines, a spider net, and canopy walks. The viewpoint acts as a tourist information center for visitors to Khammouane Province. Adventure activities include ziplining across the valley, a via ferrata circuit, suspended bridges, and the unique spider net. For a more relaxed experience, a 650-meter nature trail offers opportunities to spot langur monkeys.
