Bokeo Nature Reserve, officially named Nam Kan National Protected Area, is located in the Bokeo Province of Laos. Established in 2004, the reserve spans 123,000 hectares of primary forests and mountainous terrain, ranging from 500 to 1500 meters in elevation. The reserve was created to protect the black-cheeked gibbon, a rare species of monkey that was rediscovered in 1997 after being presumed extinct. The Bokeo Nature Reserve is known for its biodiversity and ecotourism opportunities. The landscape features lush rainforests, pristine rivers, and diverse wildlife. From Ban Houayxay
The primary access point to Bokeo Nature Reserve is through the town of Ban Houayxay. From there, the Gibbon Experience provides transportation to the reserve as part of their tour packages.
