From the center of Muang Xai, head southeast on Route 1A. Follow the signs towards Phu That Pagoda. After approximately 3 km, you will reach a fork in the road; take the left fork onto a smaller road. Continue for another 1 km until you see the signs directing you to the pagoda. The walk is manageable, allowing you to enjoy the local scenery. No costs are associated with walking.
Public Transportation
Take a local bus from the main bus station in Muang Xai. Buses to nearby villages pass by the pagoda. Ask the driver to drop you off at the closest point to Phu That Pagoda, which is approximately 4 km away. From there, you can either walk or hire a tuk-tuk to take you the remaining distance to the pagoda. Bus fare is approximately 10,000 LAK.
Tuk-Tuk
Hire a tuk-tuk from anywhere in Muang Xai. Negotiate the fare beforehand, which typically costs around 20,000 to 30,000 LAK (approximately $2 to $3 USD). The tuk-tuk will take you directly to the entrance of Phu That Pagoda.
