From Pakse
From Pakse, the most convenient way to reach Vat Phou is by renting a motorcycle or car. The journey covers approximately 45 km and takes about an hour. Cross the Lao-Nippon bridge over the Mekong River and continue on route 16W. After the first checkpoint, turn left and continue straight for 40 km. Follow the signs directing you to Vat Phou. Alternatively, you can hire a taxi or book a tour from Pakse. A taxi may cost around 200,000-300,000 LAK. A half-day tour will cost around 120,000 LAK, excluding the entrance fee. There are also regular bus services from Vientiane and Luang Prabang to Pakse. From Pakse, you can take a local bus, taxi, or rent a car to reach Vat Phou. Tolls: Approximately 5,000 LAK for cars at checkpoints between Pakse and Champasak. Parking: Approximately 5,000 LAK at Vat Phou.
From Champasak Town
If you are in Champasak town, Vat Phou is approximately 10 km away. You can rent a bicycle or motorcycle from your guesthouse. Bicycles cost around 30,000 to 50,000 LAK per day. Motorcycles cost approximately 80,000 LAK per day. The ride is relatively easy, with no hills, but the road may be potholed in places. Alternatively, you can hire a tuk-tuk to take you to the temple and back. Cost: Tuk-tuk fares are negotiable.
