Sudrabkalniņš is a poignant monument dedicated to the soldiers of the 6th Riga Infantry Regiment, who played a crucial role in defending Riga against the Bermontians in November 1919. The monument commemorates the fierce battles fought during the Latvian War of Independence. In November 1919, the 6th Riga Infantry Regiment faced the West Russian Volunteer Army, also known as the Bermontians, near Anniņmuiža. Despite suffering losses of 41 soldiers and 300 wounded, the regiment successfully drove out the Bermontians, securing a crucial victory for the Latvian forces. The original monument was created by sculptor Kārlis Zāle and architect Ernests Štālbergs. After the Second World War, the monument suffered damage, with the plaque and granite blocks being removed. However, it was lovingly restored in 2005, ensuring that the memory of the soldiers and their bravery lives on. Today, Sudrabkalniņš stands as a reminder of Latvia's fight for freedom and a place for reflection on the sacrifices made for the nation's independence.
