    From the Bauska central bus station, the castle is approximately a 20-minute walk. Head north-east, cross the Mūsa tilts (Musa Bridge), and follow the Pilskalna iela. The castle will be visible on the right.

    From Riga, take a bus to Bauska. Several buses operate between Riga and Bauska, with the journey taking approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. From the Bauska bus station, follow the walking directions to reach the castle. A bus from 1. vidusskola to Rundāles pils costs approximately $1 - $2.

  • Car

    From anywhere in Semigallia, drive towards Bauska city. Follow the signs for Bauska, using the A7 highway. Once in Bauska, look for signs directing you to Pilskalna iela. Bauska Castle Museum is located at Pilskalna iela, and parking is available nearby. Free parking is available.

Bauska Castle, situated on a picturesque spit of land where the Mūsa and Mēmele rivers converge to form the Lielupe, is a captivating historical site. The castle is divided into two parts: the ruins of the Livonian Order Castle, built in the mid-15th century, and the more recent residence of the Duke of Courland, constructed in the late 16th century.The Livonian Order Castle, the oldest part, was built specifically for artillery cannons. Today, only ruins remain, but visitors can still appreciate the strategic layout of the defensive walls and towers. The central tower has been restored and offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.The newer section, the ducal residence, showcases architectural styles of Mannerism. Restoration efforts began in the 1970s to transform it into a tourism destination, highlighting the historical and architectural heritage of the region. Inside, visitors can explore renovated living rooms, representation halls, and a kitchen, adorned with period furnishings, fireplaces, and tile stoves.
