The Papes Tourism Information Point and Exhibition, situated in the 'Dzintarvēji' building in Pape, provides visitors with a gateway to discovering the unique cultural and natural heritage of this coastal region. The building itself has historical significance, originally serving as a fish processing workshop for local fishermen in the 1930s. Today, it has been renovated to retain its old-world charm and houses a fascinating exhibition dedicated to the history of fishing in Pape and the nearby village of Nida. Visitors can learn about the traditional fishing methods, the types of fish that were commonly caught, and the lives of the fishermen and their families who depended on the sea for their livelihoods. The exhibition offers a glimpse into a way of life that has largely disappeared from the Latvian coastline, making it a valuable cultural experience. In addition to the exhibition, the tourism information point offers practical assistance for exploring the Pape Nature Park. Knowledgeable staff can provide maps, brochures, and advice on hiking trails, birdwatching spots, and other attractions in the area. The park is known for its diverse ecosystems, including Lake Pape, a shallow lagoon-type lake with unique saltwater vegetation, coastal dunes, and the Nida high bog. It is also home to wild horses and aurochs, which graze on the natural floodplain meadows. The 'Dzintarvēji' building also offers bicycle and boat rentals, allowing visitors to explore the area at their own pace. A smokehouse is available for those who wish to smoke their own catch.
