Ameen Rihani Museum: A Literary Legacy

Nestled in the village of Fraikeh, the Ameen Rihani Museum offers a glimpse into the world of Ameen Rihani, a key figure in Arab-American literature. Established in 1953 by Rihani's brother, Albert, the museum is located in the lower level of the Rihani family home. The collection started in 1897 and continues to grow with the help of the Rihani family, the Ameen Rihani Foundation, and scholars. The museum is organized chronologically into eight sections, including Rihani's beginnings, his experiences in the West, his Arab Dream period, and his international horizons. Visitors can view Rihani's original manuscripts, letters, and personal items, such as his stone and hat collections, typewriter, and gifts from Arabian royalty. The museum also features Rihani's bedroom, an arts section, and archives containing his personal artwork and portraits. Highlights include three portraits by Kahlil Gibran and sketches for *The Book of Khalid*. The museum not only showcases Rihani's life but also provides insight into his cultural impact and his relationships with contemporaries like Khalil Gibran.
