Discover more about Naous Roman Temple

Nestled on a picturesque hilltop in the Koura region of Lebanon, the Naous Roman Temple, also known as Qasr Naous, provides a unique window into the area's Roman past. Approximately 600 meters above sea level, the temple complex was built in a location that allowed for communication between sites. Today, visitors are rewarded with panoramic views of the Koura landscape, including glimpses of Tripoli, Batroun, and Akkar. The site consists of two temples: the 'east' temple and the 'Helios Temple'. The east temple, constructed during the reign of Constantine I in the 3rd and 4th centuries AD, is the better-preserved of the two. Visitors can still see the platform, two Corinthian columns, and sections of the walls. The remains of an altar are visible in front of the temple. The 'Helios Temple,' believed to be an improved version of the east temple, is now mostly in ruins. A relief depicting Helios, the Roman sun god, was discovered among the debris. Exploring the site, visitors can appreciate the intricate stonework and imagine the temple's original grandeur. Though somewhat hidden and lacking detailed signage, the temple exudes a serene atmosphere, inviting relaxation and reflection.
