Mseilha Fort, also known as “Qala'at Mseilha,” is a captivating medieval fortress located near the coastal city of Batroun in northern Lebanon. The fort was constructed in the 17th century by Emir Fakhr-al-Din II, a prominent Lebanese leader during the Ottoman period, to protect the trade route from Tripoli to Beirut.Strategically perched atop a long, narrow limestone rock formation overlooking the Nahr el-Jawz River, the fort provided a commanding view of the surrounding area, allowing defenders to control access to the road below. The fort's walls, constructed from sandstone blocks, are 1.5 to 2 meters thick. The larger limestone blocks are the only remains of an earlier structure probably built for the same defensive reason. Over the centuries, Mseilha Fort has witnessed numerous battles and played a crucial role in the region's defense.Inside the fort, visitors can explore various chambers and courtyards that once housed soldiers and stored supplies. The fort's design reflects its defensive purpose, featuring thick, towering walls and strategically placed watchtowers. The main entrance is through a fortified gatehouse designed to withstand attacks.
