Walking
The Old City of Safed is best explored on foot due to its narrow, winding streets and staircases. From the Safed Academic College, head southwest on Jerusalem Street, then turn right onto Arlozorov Street. Continue straight, following signs for the Old City. The entrance to the Old City is approximately a 10-15 minute walk. Note that some streets are steep and uneven. There are no costs associated with walking.
Public Transport
The Safed Central Bus Station is located at the entrance to Safed. From the bus station, you can take a local bus to the Old City. Bus lines #3, #4, #10, #11, #13, #6, and #7 all service different parts of the city. Check local bus schedules for the most up-to-date information. A single bus fare within Safed costs approximately 6 NIS. Alternatively, you can take a taxi or sherut (shared taxi) from the bus station to the Old City for approximately 25-35 NIS.
Taxi
Taxis are readily available in Safed. You can find them at the central bus station or call one of the local taxi companies. A taxi ride from the bus station or other locations in Safed to the Old City typically costs between 25-35 NIS, depending on the distance and traffic. Be sure to confirm the fare with the driver before starting your journey.
