Bazelet HaGolan Winery

History and Founding

Bazelet HaGolan Winery was established in 1998 by Yoav Levy, a farmer who began making wine at home before creating this boutique operation in Moshav Kidmat Tzvi. Specializing initially in Cabernet Sauvignon, the winery received kosher certification in 2004 and now produces around 80,000 bottles yearly. Named for the rich bazelet basalt soil, it embodies the unique terroir of the Golan Heights, with vineyards yielding noble varietals through natural processes.

Vineyards and Winemaking

The winery's secret lies in the fertile volcanic soil, high-altitude vineyards and cool climate overlooking the Sea of Galilee. Grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay are fermented and aged unfiltered in oak barrels—Reserves for up to 20 months—to enhance flavor and aroma. Series include the everyday Bronze line and premium Reserve, plus special Vineyard 188 honoring the IDF's 188th Brigade near Tel Fares, site of a 1973 Yom Kippur War battle.

Visitor Center Experience

The on-site visitor center welcomes guests for tours revealing the production process, from grape to bottle. Smell fermenting aromas, learn about bazelet soil's role and taste award-winning wines paired with cheese platters. Perfect for northern Israel road trips, birthdays or group events, the peaceful surroundings and fresh air create an idyllic tasting atmosphere with panoramic views.

Wines and Varietals

Signature reds dominate: bold Cabernet Sauvignons with black fruit and oak notes, Merlots blending forest berries and herbs, and luxury blends. Whites like un-oaked Chardonnay offer crisp refreshment, while rosés provide lighter options. The logo features an ancient coin depicting Dionysus, god of wine, symbolizing timeless celebration. Grappa serves as a digestif.

Location and Setting

Perched on gentle slopes halfway up Route 9098, 10 minutes north of Katzrin, the winery offers vistas of the Galilee on clear days. Surrounded by groves and a magical spring, it provides a tranquil escape amid the Golan's dramatic landscape, blending agriculture, history and oenology.
