Discover more about Dabane Palace

The Debbane Palace, also known as Qasr Debbane, Dar Ali Agha al-Hammud, and Dar Debbané, is an Arab-Ottoman-style grand mansion located in Sidon, Lebanon. Constructed in 1721 by Ali Agha al-Hammud, a notable Sidonian builder, the palace stands as a testament to the region's rich history and architectural prowess. Built as a private residence, the palace features a central courtyard designed to ensure the privacy of its occupants. The palace's architecture is a harmonious blend of Ottoman and Baroque styles, with designs inspired by Damascene architectural schools. The imposing facade boasts intricate stonework and ornate balconies. Inside, visitors can admire the indoor fountain, elaborate multicolored mosaics, muqarnas ornaments, and sculpted Lebanese cedar ceilings. Over the centuries, the palace changed hands and functions. In 1859, Asin Khlat Debbane, wife of a wealthy silk trader, acquired the western part of the mansion, including the selamlik (Ottoman reception hall). The palace then became the private residence of the Debbane family until the Lebanese Civil War in 1976. The palace suffered damage during the war and was later restored and transformed into a private museum. Today, the Debbane Palace is a cultural center that hosts exhibitions, concerts, and other cultural events.
