Discover more about Lady Of Zahle

Perched atop Tel Chiha hill, overlooking Zahlé and the Bekaa Valley, stands Our Lady of Zahlé, a testament to faith and a beacon offering panoramic views. This Marian shrine, also known as Our Lady of Bekaa, features a striking 10-meter-high bronze statue of the Virgin Mary, crafted by Italian artist Pierroti. The statue rests on a 54-meter-high tower clad in white marble, making it visible from across Zahlé and the valley. In 1958, Bishop Euthym, driven by his devotion to Our Lady, initiated the shrine's construction. Although delayed by the Lebanese Civil War, it was finally inaugurated in May 2005 after extensive restoration. Today, visitors can ascend to a viewing platform via an elevator for sweeping views of the red-roofed city and the fertile Bekaa Valley. The tower's base houses a small chapel that can accommodate around 100 people. Our Lady of Zahlé is more than just a religious site; it's a cultural and historical landmark. The statue depicts the Virgin Mary carrying the child Jesus in one hand and a bunch of grapes in the other, while Jesus holds an ear of wheat, symbolizing the region's agricultural heritage. The shrine embodies the deep connection between the people of Zahlé and the Virgin Mary, who they believe actively protects their city.
