Getting There

    To reach Sapo National Park, begin your journey from Monrovia. The drive to the park can take a full day or more, depending on road conditions. A 4x4 vehicle and an experienced driver are essential, especially during the rainy season. The route typically involves traveling to Greenville and then heading north to Juarzon and southeast to Jalay Town, where the park headquarters is located. Be prepared for challenging road conditions, including dirt roads, deep mud, and river crossings. It's advisable to hire a private vehicle and driver familiar with the area. Contact Sapo Ecolodge for assistance with hiring a driver. Fuel costs for the journey can vary, so it's best to fill up whenever possible. A small donation to the local villagers is expected upon arrival at Jalay Town.

  • Walking & Canoe

    From Jalay Town, it's approximately a 45-minute walk to Sapo Ecolodge. Near the ecolodge, you'll find a crossing point where a guided canoe will take you over the Sinoe River to enter the park. The canoe ride has a fee that is paid in advance at the headquarters. Park entrance fees are $20 per day, or $30 per day if staying overnight. Guides charge $5 per ranger per day, and travelers are usually accompanied by 3 rangers. A one-time fee of $5 is charged for porters. Travelers cannot explore the park unaccompanied.
