Discover more about Caumasee

Caumasee, often called the jewel of Flims, is a breathtaking alpine lake renowned for its striking turquoise waters. Situated at nearly 1,000 meters above sea level, the lake is nestled within a dense forest, creating a tranquil and idyllic escape. The Romansh name 'Lag la Cauma' translates to Lake of Siesta, perfectly capturing the serene atmosphere. The lake's unique color comes from its underground spring sources. These sources also contribute to the lake's relatively warm water temperature, which averages 21°C in the summer and can reach up to 24°C. This makes Caumasee a popular swimming destination, even though it's an alpine lake. The lake spans 10.3 hectares and reaches depths of 30 meters. In the middle of the lake lies a rocky island, adding to the scenery. Caumasee was formed by deposits from a prehistoric rockslide, which also preserved the surrounding forest. Visitors can walk around the lake in under an hour, enjoying the views and the peaceful atmosphere. The lake offers various activities, including swimming, paddle boating, stand-up paddleboarding, and volleyball. There's also a restaurant and kiosk for refreshments. To protect the site, the number of visitors is sometimes limited, and an entrance fee is charged during the summer season. The lake is accessible via a 10-minute walk from Flims or by using the Caumasee-Lift funicular, which operates from May to October.
