Klibühni Chur: Intimate Theater in Chur's Old Town

Klibühni Chur, whose name translates to "small stage" in the local dialect, is the second-oldest theater in Chur, after the Stadttheater. Since 1974, this intimate venue has been a cornerstone of Chur's cultural scene, offering a diverse program of cabaret, pantomime, and other performing arts. The theater is located at Kirchgasse 14 in the Old Town, next to the Antistitium. Klibühni's origins lie in the cultural movements of the early 1970s, aiming to provide a platform for young artists and promote small-scale arts. The Klibühni is managed by an association and has been performing in its current location since 1982. It receives subsidies from the city of Chur's cultural fund. Klibühni presents around 120 performances each year, including theater, concerts, readings, and children's theater. The theater also produces its own plays, which regularly receive national attention. In the summer, Klibühni opens the Höfli-Beiz, a culinary hotspot offering high-quality food and wine alongside a cultural program. This unique combination of gastronomy and art has made Klibühni a beloved institution in Chur. Klibühni also played a key role in the creation of the Churer Fest, a popular festival in Chur. The Klibühni-Fest, first held in 1975 to finance the theater's work, evolved into the Churer Fest in 1982, which the Klibühni then handed over to other Chur associations.
