MuseumMura: A Glimpse into Schaanwald's Past

MuseumMura, nestled in the picturesque town of Schaanwald, is a captivating local history museum that immerses visitors in the rich cultural heritage of the region. The museum's collection began over 40 years ago when the local cultural commission asked residents to donate objects representing daily life, housing, and work. Over the decades, this initiative grew into one of the largest collections of cultural artifacts in the region. In 2006, the collection was transformed into a themed museum and reopened in the multi-purpose building under the name MuseumMura. The museum features a diverse range of displays, showcasing everything from traditional crafts to historical documents that narrate the evolution of the area. Each exhibit is thoughtfully curated to provide context and engage visitors, making it an educational experience suitable for all ages. In 2022, a process was initiated to realign the institution, involving external management and the participation of all stakeholders, interested parties, experts, and the public. This process concluded in 2023 with the creation of a strategy paper that was approved by the municipal council. One of the changes stipulated in the paper is the renaming of MuseumMura to SammlungMura. The goal of the realignment is to allow interested parties to continue to view the cultural artifacts collection.
