Founded in 2000 by Bernhard Leismüller, this unique theater stages full-length operas, operettas, and ballets using handcrafted marionettes. Leismüller not only founded the theater but also designs the marionettes, their costumes, and the choreography.
The marionettes, numbering around 500, are all made in-house with specially tailored clothes. Performances feature a dozen puppeteers who bring these figures to life, creating a surprisingly realistic opera experience. The repertoire includes famous works such as "The Magic Flute," "Carmen," and "Swan Lake". The theater's intimate setting allows the audience to appreciate the delicate movements and expressions of the marionettes.
With only about 100 seats, the Lindauer Marionettenoper often sells out in advance.
