    Obere Burg is located in the Hinterschloss area of Schellenberg and is easily accessible on foot from the village center. From the center of Schellenberg, follow the signs towards Hinterschloss. The walk to the castle is short. There are no entrance fees.

    If arriving by bus, take the LIEmobil bus to Schellenberg, Post. From there, it's a short walk to the village center and then on to Obere Burg in Hinterschloss. A single LIEmobil bus ticket within Liechtenstein costs CHF 3.00. A day ticket for all zones costs CHF 12.

    If driving, follow signs to Schellenberg. Parking is available in and around the village. Be mindful of local parking regulations. Obere Burg, also called Burg Neu-Schellenberg, is one of Liechtenstein's five castles and one of three ruined castles. Construction of the Obere Burg was completed around 1200, and it is first mentioned in historical records dating to 1348. It is believed that the castle was inhabited until the 16th century, after which it was abandoned and fell into disrepair. In 1956, Prince Franz Joseph II gifted the ruins to the Historical Association of the Principality of Liechtenstein, who now oversee the preservation of the site. Today, visitors can freely explore the remains of the castle, including the gate and walls. The site provides a tangible connection to Liechtenstein's medieval history and offers scenic views. The Obere Burg is easily accessible and makes for a popular destination for a short walk.
