Discover more about Künstlerhaus Palais Thurn und Taxis

The Künstlerhaus Palais Thurn und Taxis, located in Bregenz, Austria, is a prominent center for contemporary art. The building itself has a rich history, originally constructed in 1848 as a residence for a jewelry manufacturer named Güllich. Around thirty years later, it was acquired by Gustav Prinz von und zu Thurn und Taxis, lending the palace its distinctive name. The city of Bregenz has owned the property since 1915. The villa's architecture reflects the style of the Wilhelminian era. In 1983/84, architects Hans Purin and Heinz Wagner renovated the building to transform it into an exhibition space for the Professional Association of Visual Artists of Vorarlberg, who have utilized it since 1953. The adjacent gardener's house serves as a secretariat, library, archive, and lithography workshop. The Künstlerhaus hosts monthly exhibitions and international programs, including the city's official summer exhibition. The surrounding park, established in 1887, is a notable botanical garden with exotic trees and has been a protected monument since 1929.
