Lindauer Marionettenoper: A World of Puppetry

The Lindauer Marionettenoper, located on the island of Lindau, is a captivating world where opera comes to life through the art of puppetry. Founded in 2000 by Bernhard Leismüller, the theater has become a cultural gem, attracting visitors from near and far. Leismüller, who designs the choreography for the performances, also lovingly makes the marionettes and their costumes. With a repertoire that includes adapted versions of well-known operas and fairy tales such as "The Magic Flute", "Hänsel und Gretel", and "The Abduction from the Seraglio", the Lindauer Marionettenoper offers something for everyone. The puppeteers skillfully manipulate the beautifully crafted puppets, bringing the stories to life with delicate movements and expressions. The thousands of marionettes originating from this venue have enthralled spectators for decades. The costumes, movements and staging are carefully worked out with great attention to detail. The theater's intimate setting allows for a close-up experience, where the audience can appreciate the artistry and skill involved in each production. The theater boasts immaculate stage settings, which have witnessed famous ballets, plays and operas. The ensemble has twelve puppeteers and the collection includes around 500 puppets made in-house. The opera house also has an adjacent exhibition area, where various puppets and backdrops are displayed. More realistic than a live opera; when the audience forget that they are only viewing puppets then the goal has been reached. The movements are flawless and the perfect mimicking of human movements is the key element of the puppet theatre.
