Greifvogelpark Buchs: A Bird of Prey Paradise
Explore Switzerland's largest bird of prey park: home to eagles, falcons, owls, and captivating flight shows.
Greifvogelpark Buchs is a remarkable sanctuary dedicated to the conservation and appreciation of birds of prey. Situated in Buchs, Switzerland, this park is home to over 190 birds representing around 72 different species of raptors and owls. Visitors can marvel at eagles, falcons, vultures, buzzards, kites, and various owl species, including a majestic Andean condor with a wingspan exceeding three meters. The park was founded in June 2001 by Lucien Nigg, who had a lifelong fascination with birds of prey. What started as a dream has grown into the largest bird of prey park in Switzerland, spanning over 10,000 square meters. The park is committed to the welfare of its inhabitants, ensuring they are well-cared for and housed in spacious enclosures that mimic their natural habitats. One of the highlights of Greifvogelpark Buchs is the popular flight show, held on Saturdays and Sundays during the summer season. These demonstrations showcase the natural hunting behaviors and majestic elegance of the birds in free flight. The arena can accommodate up to 120 spectators, providing an up-close and unforgettable experience. The park is also involved in the breeding and preservation of rare species, with their young birds spread throughout Europe. Beyond the flight shows, visitors can explore the park's grounds, observing the diverse collection of birds and learning about their unique characteristics and habitats. The park also features a small playground and a petting zoo with goats, making it an ideal destination for families.
