Discover more about Burg Gutenberg

Burg Gutenberg, rising 70 meters above Balzers, is one of Liechtenstein's five castles and one of two still standing. Unlike Vaduz Castle, it's open to the public, offering a glimpse into the past. The castle's origins trace back to a medieval church and cemetery on a hilltop. Fortification began in the 12th century, with the addition of a ring wall. Over the centuries, it was owned by nobles like the Lords of Frauenberg and the House of Habsburg, serving as a strategic border post. Burg Gutenberg fell into disrepair but was lovingly restored between 1905 and 1912. Today, visitors can explore the grounds, including the bailey (outer courtyard) which is open year-round, and the rose garden and chapel, open on Sundays from May to October. Guided tours offer deeper insights into the castle's history and architecture. The castle also hosts cultural events, including concerts and exhibitions, adding a vibrant touch to its historical ambiance.
