Schlosswiese: Vaduz's Verdant Escape
A historic castle overlooking Vaduz, serving as the private residence for the Princely Family of Liechtenstein since the 12th century.
Vaduz Castle, or Schloss Vaduz, is the iconic residence of Liechtenstein's royal family, perched high above the capital city. Dating back to the 12th century, the castle offers panoramic views, though its interior remains private, save for the rose garden which is open to the public on the National Day.
Opening times, essentials, and a few local tips gathered into one calmer, easier-to-scan planning section.
Walking
From Vaduz's main pedestrian street (Städtle), follow the marked path uphill towards Vaduz Castle. The route is well-signed with brown 'Schloss' (Castle) signs. The walk takes approximately 20-30 minutes, offering increasing panoramic views. The path is inclined, but manageable for those in decent physical condition. There are no costs associated with walking to the castle.
Car
From the center of Vaduz, follow signs for 'Schloss Vaduz'. Turn onto Feldstrasse from the main road (28). Continue past the Prince of Liechtenstein's wine cellars. At the first fork in the road, stay right onto Haldenweg, following the brown 'Schloss' signs. A parking area is located just past the castle on Bergstrasse. Parking rates start with the first hour free, then 0.5 CHF per hour.
Taxi
Taxis are available in Vaduz, though not always readily. A taxi from the center of Vaduz to Vaduz Castle, approximately 5km, will cost around 6.6 CHF. Taxi services can be found by contacting Alpha taxi, Taxi beck anstalt, or Taxi gabor anstalt.
