The Künstlerhaus Palais Thurn und Taxis is a prominent center for contemporary art located in Bregenz, Austria. Situated in a stunning villa, the gallery hosts a diverse range of exhibitions, featuring both local and international artists. The building itself has a rich history, originally built in 1848 as a residence for a jewelry manufacturer. About thirty years later, it was sold to Gustav Prinz von und zu Thurn und Taxis, lending the palace its name. Since 1915, the property has been owned by the city of Bregenz. In 1953, the Professional Association of Fine Artists of Vorarlberg began using the Palais for exhibitions. The building was renovated in 1983/84, and the neighboring gardener's house was repurposed to house the association's secretariat, library, archive, and a lithography workshop. The villa is surrounded by one of the city's most beautiful parks, featuring exotic and native trees. The garden, originally designed in 1887 by Gustav Prinz von und zu Thurn und Taxis, is considered one of Austria's most significant garden monuments. Today, the Künstlerhaus continues to host monthly exhibitions and international programs, solidifying its role as a vital cultural hub in Bregenz.
