Discover more about Obersee

Obersee, a jewel in the Glarus Nord region of Switzerland, offers visitors a serene escape into nature. Situated in a beautiful valley, this lake is a local secret, easily accessible from Zurich. The panoramic views of the Glarus Alps evoke a sense of being in British Columbia, Canada. The lake's crystal-clear waters are perfect for leisurely exploration. A walking path suitable for strollers encircles the lake, allowing visitors to observe anglers in action. Fishing is a popular activity, with opportunities to catch trout. For those seeking more active pursuits, Obersee serves as a gateway to hiking trails that range from gentle strolls to challenging mountain ascents. Since 2012, the lakebed has been increasingly covered by the invasive Nuttall's waterweed from North America. While efforts to combat its spread continue, the lake retains its charm and appeal. Berghotel Obersee, located directly on the lake, provides a restaurant and playground. The area is ideal for family outings, offering both relaxation and adventure.
