  • Public Transport

    To reach Burg Gutenberg by public transport, take bus line 11 from Vaduz to Balzers. The bus departs from the Vaduz bus station every 20 minutes and the ride takes about 19 minutes. Get off at the 'Balzers, Post' stop. From there, it's a short 1.2-kilometer walk. Head north on Hauptstraße, then turn left onto Burgweg. Follow this road until you reach Burg Gutenberg at Burgweg 5. A bus ticket will cost around 3 CHF.

    If you are near St. Nicholas Church, a well-marked hiking trail leads to the castle in approximately 30 minutes. If you prefer walking from Steg, follow the path leading southeast and continue on the marked hiking trails for about 1.5 hours. Eventually, connect to the Burgweg road, which leads directly to the castle.

    If driving, head towards Balzers from Vaduz Nature Park. Take the A13 highway and exit at Balzers. From the exit, follow the signs for Burg Gutenberg, located at Burgweg 5, 9496 Balzers. Parking is available nearby. Stadium Parking is located at 9496 Balzers, Liechtenstein. Other parking options include Parkplatz Balzers and Car Park at Balzers, Haus Gutenberg.

Unlike Vaduz Castle, it is open to the public as a museum and event venue. The castle is perched on a 70-meter-high hill near Balzers' center, accessible via Burgweg. The castle's origins trace back to a medieval church and cemetery around 1100. In the early 12th century, fortification began with a surrounding wall, forming a circular keep. Modifications throughout the 12th century included the main tower's creation as an extension of the existing keep. The Lords of Frauenberg owned the castle in the 12th and 13th centuries. After 1314, it became property of the House of Habsburg and was used to guard the border areas. Today, Burg Gutenberg hosts concerts and events, offering a blend of history and culture.
