Vaduz Castle, known locally as Schloss Vaduz, is an iconic landmark and the official residence of the Prince of Liechtenstein. Towering approximately 120 meters above Vaduz, the castle's origins trace back to the 12th century, with the keep being one of the oldest sections. First documented in 1322, it initially served as a fortress controlling key Alpine routes. Over the centuries, the castle has undergone numerous expansions and renovations, blending medieval fortifications with Renaissance elegance. In 1712, the Liechtenstein family acquired the castle, and it became the seat of the principality in 1719. Prince Franz Josef II took up permanent residence in 1939, marking its role as the primary home of the Princely Family. While the castle's interior is generally closed to the public, except for the gardens on Liechtenstein's National Day (August 15th) , its imposing exterior can be admired from various vantage points in and around Vaduz. The surrounding paths offer historical insights and stunning views of the Rhine Valley and the Alps.
