Künstlerhaus Palais Thurn und Taxis, originally Villa Gülich, is an international center for contemporary art located in Bregenz, Austria. The building, also known as Palais Thurn und Taxis, has been home to the Professional Association of Visual Artists of Vorarlberg since 1953. The villa was built in 1848 by Bijouteriewarenfabrikant Güllich from Pforzheim as a residential building. In 1887, Gustav Prinz von und zu Thurn und Taxis acquired the property, giving the house its name. Since 1915, the property has been owned by the city of Bregenz. The building was renovated and converted in 1983/84 by the architects Hans Purin and Heinz Wagner. The garden is one of the most important garden monuments in Austria. Today, the Künstlerhaus hosts monthly changing exhibitions, international programs, and every summer, the state capital's official summer exhibition. The program reflects the development of regional and international art. The gallery's collections often include paintings, sculptures, and multimedia installations that challenge conventional perspectives and invite dialogue among viewers.
