Getting There

• Bicycle

  Start your journey at the Lake Charles Civic Center located at 900 Lakeshore Drive. From there, head east on Lakeshore Drive until you reach the intersection with Broad Street. Turn left onto Broad Street and continue north until you reach the intersection with 3rd Street. Turn right onto 3rd Street, which will become Ryan Street. Continue on Ryan Street until you reach the intersection with Prien Lake Road. Turn left onto Prien Lake Road and follow it to the end, where you will find a small boat launch. Here, you can rent a kayak or a canoe to paddle to Clooney Island, which is visible to the east across the water.

• Public Transit

  Begin your trip at the Lake Charles Transit Center located at 1000 Ryan Street. Take the Route 1 bus heading towards the Prien Lake Mall. After about 30 minutes, get off at the stop near the Prien Lake Park. From the park, you can rent a kayak or canoe at the nearby launch site. Paddle east toward Clooney Island, which is accessible by water and offers beautiful scenery.

• Walking

  If you're feeling adventurous, you can walk to the Prien Lake Park from downtown Lake Charles. Start at the Lake Charles Public Library on 301 W Claude Street and head east on 3rd Street. Continue straight until you reach Ryan Street, then turn left. Walk north until you reach Prien Lake Road. Cross the road and enter Prien Lake Park. From there, rent a kayak or canoe and paddle to Clooney Island, located approximately half a mile from the park.
