Getting There

  • Public Transit

    Start at the Lake Charles Civic Center, located at 900 Lakeshore Dr, Lake Charles, LA 70601. From there, walk to the nearest bus stop at the corner of Lakeshore Drive and Broad Street. Take the 25 or 26 bus towards the Northgate area. After approximately 20 minutes, get off at the Northgate Mall stop. From the mall, transfer to the 27 bus towards the Prien Lake Mall. After another 15 minutes, get off at the Sutherland Road stop. Walk approximately 0.5 miles (about 10 minutes) along Sutherland Road heading east until you reach Sam Houston Jones State Park at 107 Sutherland Rd, Lake Charles, LA 70611.

    If you're renting a bicycle, start from the Lake Charles Civic Center. Head east on Lakeshore Drive, then turn left onto Broad Street. Follow Broad Street until you reach the intersection with Prien Lake Road. Turn right and continue along Prien Lake Road. After about 2 miles, turn left onto Sutherland Road and cycle for another mile. The entrance to Sam Houston Jones State Park will be on your right at 107 Sutherland Rd, Lake Charles, LA 70611.

    If you are walking from downtown Lake Charles, start at the Lake Charles Civic Center. Head east on Lakeshore Drive and continue until you reach the intersection with Broad Street. Turn left onto Broad Street and walk until you reach Prien Lake Road. Turn right onto Prien Lake Road and continue for approximately 1.5 miles.
