Getting There

Car
From the center of Sava, head southeast on Route Nationale 5 (RN5) towards Antalaha. Keep driving for approximately 40 kilometers. You will pass through several small villages along the way. Watch for signs directing you to Savako, which is a mountain peak. After about 30 minutes on RN5, take a left turn onto a smaller road that leads towards Savako. Drive for another 15 kilometers until you reach the base of the mountain. Parking is available at the site.

Start at the main taxi-brousse station in Sava. Look for a taxi-brousse heading towards Antalaha, which usually costs about 10,000 Ariary ($2.50). The journey takes around 1 hour. Once you arrive at Antalaha, transfer to a local taxi-brousse or a private vehicle that can take you toward Savako. This second leg of the journey will cost approximately 5,000 Ariary ($1.25) and may take an additional 30 minutes to reach the base of the mountain. After arriving at the base, you may need to walk or hire a local guide for the final part of the journey to the peak.
