Getting There

• Walking

  If you are starting from the Maine State House, head east on State Street toward the intersection with Capitol Street. Turn left onto Capitol Street and continue until you reach the intersection with Water Street. From there, turn right onto Water Street. After about 0.5 miles, you will see the Cushnoc Archeological Site on your left, near the banks of the Kennebec River. Look for a small park area that serves as the entrance.

• Public Transportation

  From the Augusta Transit Center, take the Bus Route 1 towards MaineGeneral Medical Center. Get off at the stop nearest to Water Street. Once you have disembarked, walk towards Water Street and head east. Continue walking for about 15 minutes along Water Street, crossing over the bridge. The Cushnoc Archeological Site will be on your left, near the river.

• Bicycling

  If you’re renting a bike, start from the downtown area and head towards the Kennebec River Rail Trail. This scenic route will guide you along the river. Follow the trail south along the riverbank for approximately 1.5 miles. You will reach the Cushnoc Archeological Site as you approach the riverfront park area, which is marked by signs detailing the historical significance of the location.
