Car
If you are driving from Bar Harbor, head southeast on Main St toward West St. Continue on Route 3 and follow the signs for Acadia National Park. After approximately 3.5 miles, you will see signs for Thunder Hole on your right. Turn into the parking area designated for Thunder Hole. Please note that parking can fill up quickly, especially during peak tourist season, so arriving early is advisable.
Public Transportation
If you are using public transportation, take the Island Explorer bus service from Bar Harbor. The bus has a designated stop at Thunder Hole. Make sure to check the bus schedule in advance as it operates on limited hours during the off-season. Once you arrive at the Thunder Hole stop, you will only need to walk a short distance to reach the viewing area.
Walking from Acadia National Park
If you're already inside Acadia National Park, you can hike to Thunder Hole from the nearby Ocean Path trail. Start at the Sand Beach parking area and follow the Ocean Path trail heading southwest. The hike is about 1.5 miles and will take you along the scenic coastline. Follow the signs for Thunder Hole, and you will arrive at the site where you can enjoy the stunning views and the sound of crashing waves.
