Car
If you are driving from Ellsworth, take Route 3 towards Bar Harbor. Continue on Route 3 for approximately 18 miles. As you approach Bar Harbor, you will see signs for the town. Once you reach Bar Harbor, look for Hancock Street. Turn left onto Hancock Street and continue until you reach the Shore Path, which begins at the intersection of Hancock Street and West Street. There is limited parking available along Hancock Street, so arrive early if possible.
Public Transportation
To reach Bar Harbor via public transportation, take the Downeast Transportation bus from Ellsworth to Bar Harbor. The bus departs from the Ellsworth Transit Center. Make sure to check the schedule online as it may vary based on the season. Once you arrive at the Bar Harbor bus stop, you will be close to the downtown area. Walk towards West Street, then head to Hancock Street to find the Shore Path, which begins at the intersection of Hancock Street and West Street. The walk from the bus stop to the Shore Path is approximately 0.5 miles.
Bicycle
For those who prefer biking, you can rent a bicycle in Bar Harbor. Start your ride from the center of Bar Harbor and take the bike lanes down to Hancock Street. The ride is approximately 1 mile and offers beautiful views of the harbor. Once you reach Hancock Street, you can park your bike at designated bike racks near the Shore Path entrance.
Walking
If you are already in the downtown area of Bar Harbor, you can easily walk to the Shore Path. From the Village Green, head east on Main Street towards the harbor. Continue walking until you reach West Street, then turn left. Walk for a short distance until you reach Hancock Street. The Shore Path entrance will be right at the corner of Hancock Street and West Street. This walk is approximately 0.8 miles and takes around 15-20 minutes.
