Getting There

• Car

  To reach the Historic Waldo-Hancock Bridge from anywhere in Hancock County, start by navigating toward US Route 1. If you're in Bar Harbor, head southwest on ME-3 toward Trenton. Merge onto US-1 and continue north. If you're in Ellsworth, take ME-3 south to join US-1. Follow US-1 North for approximately 20 miles. Once you reach Prospect, look for the signs directing you to Fort Knox State Historic Site. Just before the entrance to Fort Knox, turn onto Ft Knox Rd. The bridge will be on your right.

• Public Transportation

  If you are using public transportation, your best option is to take a bus from Ellsworth to Bangor, as there are no direct routes to Prospect. From the Ellsworth Transit stop, board a bus heading to Bangor. Once in Bangor, you can take a taxi or rideshare service to reach the Historic Waldo-Hancock Bridge. The taxi ride from Bangor to the bridge will take approximately 30-40 minutes and may cost around $50-70, depending on traffic and time of day.

• Bicycle

  For those who enjoy cycling, start from the town of Bucksport. Take Main St (ME-15) toward the bridge. The distance is about 10 miles and will take approximately 1 hour. The route is mostly flat, making it suitable for casual cyclists. Be sure to wear a helmet and follow local traffic laws. Upon arriving at the bridge, you can lock your bike at the designated bike racks near Fort Knox.

• Walking

  If you are staying near Fort Knox, you can walk to the Historic Waldo-Hancock Bridge. The distance from Fort Knox to the bridge is approximately 0.5 miles and takes about 10-15 minutes on foot. Simply follow the path leading from Fort Knox towards the bridge. There are signs to guide you along the way.
